Coming soon: Duterte Kitchen is to open his new kitchen in Bacolod

Digong Kitchen to open soon

The first Duterte's Kitchen in Negros Occidental, that aims to feed individuals living and sleeping on streets, will have its soft opening on Saturday, Ging Lewis, one of the organizers and prime movers of the project, said during a press conference yesterday.

With the slogan “Wala Sang Matulog Nga Gutom (No One Will Sleep Hungry),” the volunteers of Duterte's Kitchen-Negros Occidental Chapter, who are mostly young professionals, also want not only to give food, but also wisdom and knowledge on how those beneficiaries can uplift their lives as well, Lewis said.

Those children sleeping with empty stomachs usually commit crimes and turn to drugs to survive, while many well-off individuals spend hundreds of pesos for a cup of coffee at expensive shops, Lewis said.

She said the program is not only to feed those who are living onthe streets but also to listen to their stories and later help them find jobs where they can earn a living.

The program, will start in Bacolod, then in Talisay and Silay, Negros Occidental, and us targetting about 100 beneficiaries,Lewis said.

The Duterte's Kitchen is patterned aftersimilar program already launched in Manila, she said.

Lewis said that since they are still starting, the group needs volunteers and cooking equipment, such as huge pots and gas supply.
